Module 6 – ITT Providers and NQT Coordinators: Learning Outside the Classroom – an Introduction
Learning outside the classroom for those in Initial Teacher Training
This module is for those delivering training for trainee teachers and those working towards QTS. It is designed to give delegates a secure grounding in the benefits of learning outside the classroom as an enhancement of compelling learning experiences, and enable them to plan and deliver frequent learning outside the classroom experiences with confidence. You will find trainer notes, PowerPoint presentations, facilitation scripts for each session, resources and materials as well as a delegate resource booklet. You will also find links to relevant parts of the How To Guidance material. This module comprises two alternative sets of material: one for the Primary phase, the other for Secondary.
The following Making the Case presentation shows how worldwide research has demonstrated that learning outside the classroom has a positive impact on the development of young people. Improvements are seen in young people’s learning, physical experiences, social interaction, emotional well-being and response, whether through a behaviour change or a shift in values and attitudes.
Teaching Outside the Classroom is a national programme supporting the development of high quality placements for trainee teachers in a diverse range of settings. Click here for further information.

Children in the foundation stage developed their mathematical skills in ordering, using the large numbers and the playground number lines. Being active and having the outdoor space is important in developing young minds.
