Module 4 – Outdoor Education Professionals in Centres and Local Authorities: Learning Approaches and Impact
Learning Outside the Classroom for Outdoor Education Professionals
This module is specifically for those working in Outdoor Education Centres, and those involved in adventurous activities. It is designed to enable those working in Centres to plan, deliver and evaluate outdoor activity programmes to maximise learning opportunities outside the classroom. The module has five sessions which can be delivered separately or sequentially over time. You will find trainer notes, PowerPoint presentations and facilitation scripts for each session, resources and materials as well as a delegate resource booklet. You will also find links to relevant parts of the How To Guidance material.
The following Making the Case presentation shows how worldwide research has demonstrated that learning outside the classroom has a positive impact on the development of young people. Improvements are seen in young people’s learning, physical experiences, social interaction, emotional well-being and response, whether through a behaviour change or a shift in values and attitudes.
